SCHOLARSHIPS AND MORE The 2010 Scholarship Application and Essay MUST be received by The Josh Gibson Foundation by The educational goals of the Josh Gibson Foundation currently include the provision of general academic assistance, computer literacy, and life skills training to children in the City of Pittsburgh. Group learning will be facilitated through cooperative learning and KWL instruction: What do you Know about the topic? By using this model, the instruction will be cooperative, genuine, and student centered. Initial interest will be created through the use of a motivational activity, and prior knowledge will be assessed.

Future instructional goals include cultural programming to help the youth understand the history and diversity of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the impact that local history and cultural influences have had on our community.

After that, the students will guide the educational process through questions and discussion. At some point in the instruction, the students will directly explore the topic though museum visits, walking tours, guest speakers, or performances.
Our cultural programs will cover many topics including: the history of organized labor in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the steel industry, the jazz age culture of the Hill District in Pittsburgh, the history of Homestead, the plays of August Wilson, and Negro League Baseball. After the instruction, learning will be assessed through a group discussion
